Carthage Main Street is excited to announce the formation of its first Youth Advisory Council. The council consists of 12 Carthage High School students that will be in 10th-12th grade in the upcoming school year. Each student was chosen by completing an application which was approved by the Carthage Main Street Advisory Board. Their first meeting was held on Tuesday, May 31 where officers were chosen by the Council. The officers for 2016-2017 are; Emily Andrus, Chairman; Kayleigh McCormick, Vice-Chairman; Natalie Twomey, Secretary; Payton Travis, Accountability Manager; Chaitali Patel, Scheduling Coordinator; Payton Jones, Social Media Coordinator and Sha’ketria Sparks, Scrapbook Coordinator. Each officer will also serve as a Junior Chamber Ambassador. The Youth Advisory Council (or YAC) is looking forward to getting involved in the community and have hit the ground running with many ideas for their project for the year. They will have a planning day in August and will announce their project soon after.
The Carthage Main Street YAC will also help with existing events in the downtown area such as the John Ritter Tribute Showcase Auditions, Halloween on the Square the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame weekend, downtown promotions and the Rodeo Jamboree.
